Janitor AI is a character chat site where creators publish characters and you talk to them, on its own model or on one you connect with an API key. Picasso IA is a generation studio with 488 hosted models for images, video and voice, paid with credits and with no keys to manage.
Janitor AI and Picasso IA both end up near fictional characters, which is why people put them side by side, but they do different jobs. Janitor AI is a character chat and roleplay site: creators publish characters, you open one and talk to it, and the ongoing conversation is the product. Those chats can run on the site's own model, or on a model you connect yourself with an API key. Picasso IA is not a companion app and does not try to be one. It is a generation studio: 488 models for images, video, voice, music, 3D and editing, plus the language models in the catalog, all hosted for you and paid for with credits, with no key to find or manage.
If what you want is a long conversation with a character somebody else designed, inside a community that exists for exactly that, and you care about deciding which model sits behind the voice, Janitor AI is the product built for it, and Picasso IA has nothing that matches its character library or its persistent personas. If what you want is to produce the things characters appear in, a portrait, a scene, a short clip, a spoken line, a set of images that keeps one design consistent, Picasso IA is the product built for that.
One difference sits under all the others, and it is the one the title of this page points at: who runs the model. On Picasso IA the models are hosted for you and a credit balance pays for them. On Janitor AI you can bring your own key, which means you choose the model and the account that issued the key is the one that meters your usage. Neither arrangement is better in general. They suit people with different habits, and the sections below say which habits those are, including a long stretch on where Janitor AI is simply the better tool.
A note on scope, since this page sits next to adult-oriented products. Everything generated on Picasso IA is about fictional adults only, never a real or identifiable person, and models differ in what they accept, so read the page of each model before you build a plan around it.
Eleven rows. The first seven are plain yes or no questions, and three of them go to Janitor AI because that is where it is ahead. The last four need a phrase, because a tick cannot describe them fairly.

Picasso IA leads on 4 rows, Janitor AI leads on 3, and the other 4 come down to what you want to make or to talk to.
Notice that the three rows Janitor AI wins are the three that define its category: characters other people made, a character you can keep coming back to, and the choice of model behind it. None of those are things Picasso IA attempts, so no amount of catalog size on our side closes that gap. The four rows we win are the opposite case, formats a chat site is simply not arranged around.
A new Picasso IA account starts with free credits that spend on the same models everyone else uses, not on a cut-down demo. You can run an image model, a video model or a text-to-speech voice before deciding anything. The interface comes in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic and Hindi, and you can look through the collection and the effects gallery without paying, which shows you what the catalog actually produces instead of what a page claims it produces.
Janitor AI's front door is the character library. Browsing what creators have published and starting a conversation is the point of the site, and for many people that is the whole appeal: you arrive, you pick a character, you talk. What a free visit includes, which model answers you by default and what changes if you connect your own key is for Janitor AI to publish and to revise, so check its own pages for the current shape of access before you rely on any detail.
The honest split is about what you want to have in your hands at the end of the first hour. On Picasso IA that is a finished file, an image or a clip or an audio line, and you can see its credit cost before you run it. On Janitor AI it is a conversation with a character, which may be exactly the thing you came for and is not something a generation studio can hand you.
On Picasso IA, paying buys credits. Every generation shows its cost before you run it, a short video costs more than a still image, and the model and the settings you pick move the number. Current plans live on the pricing page and nowhere in this article, because plans change and a stale figure helps nobody.
On Janitor AI, what paying changes is for the site to describe, and this page will not guess at it. What can be said without guessing is how bring-your-own-key works in general. When a chat tool lets you connect a key, the usage is billed by whoever issued that key, on their terms, in parallel with whatever the site itself charges or does not charge. You get control and, in exchange, a second account to watch and a bill whose size depends on how long your conversations run.
That is the practical meaning of hosted against bring-your-own-key. With hosted models, one balance pays for everything you do on the platform and you never touch a credential from another service. With your own key, you choose the model freely and carry the billing relationship yourself. People who like to tune and swap models tend to prefer the second. People who just want to make something and move on tend to prefer the first.
This is the section where the two products look least alike, and it is also where Janitor AI is genuinely, specifically better at a few things, so it earns the longest stretch of this page.
Janitor AI is arranged around characters. A creator writes a character, publishes it, and anyone can start a conversation with it. The unit of the product is the character and the chat, not the model, and that choice shapes everything: the library you browse, the characters you return to, the community of people writing and refining characters for each other. When you connect your own key, the model becomes a setting you control. You can use the site's own model for one chat and a different one for the next, which is a freedom that a hosted catalog does not offer in the same form. If you have a favorite language model, a long-running story and an opinion about which voice suits your characters, that flexibility is the reason to be there.
Picasso IA makes the opposite bet. The unit of the product is the model, and you choose it deliberately: FLUX 2 Pro for photographic stills, Seedream 5 Pro for illustration, Veo 3.1 and Kling V3 for video, ElevenLabs v3 for a spoken line, Hunyuan 3D 3.1 for turning a picture into a mesh, and the language models of the catalog, such as Claude Sonnet 5 and Gemini 3 Pro, for writing dialogue, character sheets or a script. All of it runs from the toolkit: pick a model, write a prompt or attach files, generate. Nothing is keyed in from outside, and when a stronger model arrives in any category it simply appears next to the old one.
There is also something Picasso IA does not do, and it should be stated plainly. A language model in our catalog is a model, not a companion. There is no persistent persona, no relationship memory and no character that remembers you from one session to the next. If you ask a catalog model to play a role it will, within a conversation, but what you get is a text generator, not the kind of character product that Janitor AI is. Anyone shopping for that experience should go to the place built around it.
For people who do both, the sensible split is obvious. Keep the conversation where the characters live, and use the studio for the visual and audio side of those same fictional adults. A page on consistent AI characters covers how to keep one design recognizable across many images, and one API for all models covers the same catalog from code.
Janitor AI is a text product. Its output is conversation, and conversation is the job it is built around. Treat anything beyond that, such as images, voices or other media around the chats, as something to verify on its site before you count on it, because this page cannot see what it offers on a given day. What it can say is that none of those formats is what the product is arranged around.
Picasso IA covers formats that a chat site does not. Text to image across many model families, so a character portrait, a location, a costume study or a cover image is one prompt away. Text to video and image to video, so a still you made can become the first frame of a short shot, with engines such as Veo 3.1 and Kling V3 that differ in motion and clip length. Text to speech and lipsync, so a written line can become a voice file in one of the model's preset voices. Music generation for a theme or a mood. And image to 3D through Hunyuan 3D 3.1, for a figure or a prop you want to turn around on screen.
Likenesses follow one rule on Picasso IA: only your own, or fictional ones, and a voice never imitates a real person. Nobody who exists, nobody identifiable, and nobody who could read as a minor. Models differ in what they accept and what they refuse, so the right habit is to open the page of the model you plan to use and read it first.
If a story you are writing in Janitor AI needs a cover, a map, a mood board, an animated opening scene or a narrated trailer, that is the moment to open Picasso IA. If you never leave the chat, you may never need it, and that is a legitimate way to use either product.
Editing is not what Janitor AI is arranged around. It is a place for conversations with characters, and a reader who wants to fix a photo, clean up a render or cut out a subject will not find that job at the center of the product. There is no reason to hold that against it: a character chat site that tried to be a photo editor would be a worse chat site.
Picasso IA treats editing as a set of dedicated tools that accept any image, generated here or not. Remove the background from a picture, upscale a small image so it prints or crops cleanly, retouch part of a picture while the rest stays untouched, edit a clip with the video editing models. Each tool shows its credit cost before you run it, so trying an upscaler on a real file is a small experiment rather than a commitment.
Where this matters for character work is the loop between ideas and finished art. A drawing or a render of a fictional adult character, made anywhere, can come in as a reference, get its background removed, get upscaled and then serve as the starting frame of a short animation. Effects cover the quick cases with one-click presets, for the days when you want a look and not a project.
Speed on Picasso IA follows the kind of job. Lighter models finish sooner, heavier models take longer, and video takes the longest because video is expensive to compute anywhere. The credit cost shown before you run a job tracks that reality, so a slow, costly job is never a surprise.
Speed on Janitor AI is a different question, and it depends on which model answers. A reply in a chat arrives at the pace of the model behind it, and if you connect your own key, the speed and any usage limits come from the account that issued that key, not from Janitor AI. That is a structural fact about bring-your-own-key rather than a statement about any particular setup, and it is worth knowing before you plan a long session around a provider you have not tried.
Commercial use deserves care on both sides. On Picasso IA, the licence terms come with each model and can differ between models, so open the page of the model your business depends on and check it before you publish. Characters on Janitor AI are written by their creators, and what you may do with a character, a conversation or text drawn from either is set by the site's terms and by the rights of the people who made them. That is for Janitor AI to publish, so read it directly. For both products, one rule holds: anything that is going to ship commercially should be reviewed first, especially when a character resembles an existing franchise or a real person.
Eight honest reasons, four for each side. If what you really need is a general assistant for writing and questions rather than character roleplay, the ChatGPT comparison may fit your decision better than this page.
Choose Picasso IA instead when you want finished images, video, voice or 3D under one balance of credits with the cost shown up front, when you would rather choose among 488 hosted models than manage keys of your own, or when a character you already have needs a face, a voice, a scene or a short film.
Most people who use both do not move from one to the other. They keep the conversations where they are and add a studio for the visual side, so treat this as adding a tool. Nothing about trying Picasso IA asks you to leave anything behind, and every character below is a fictional adult you invented or own.
For chatting with characters, no, and we say so plainly. Picasso IA has no character library, no persistent personas and no relationship memory. For making the images, video, voice and 3D that go around those characters, it is a strong companion, and many people would use both. Choose by the thing you want in your hands at the end, a conversation or a finished file.
Not in the way Janitor AI offers it. The catalog includes language models, and you can ask one to play a role inside a single conversation, or to write dialogue and character sheets, but nothing carries a persona or a memory of you between sessions. Picasso IA is a generation studio, not a companion app, so if an ongoing character is what you want, use a product built for it.
No, and that is by design. The models in the catalog are hosted for you and paid with credits, so there is no key from another service to connect. The API key you create in your account is for calling Picasso IA itself, with the same models and the same credits as the toolkit. If choosing and funding your own model is the point for you, that is a real reason to pick Janitor AI.
For fictional adult characters you invented or own, yes. Describe the character in plain words or attach a reference image, run it in the toolkit, and keep the best result as that character's look. Never use a real or identifiable person, and keep to characters that are yours: a character another creator published belongs to them. Each model has its own page with what it accepts, so read it first.
Yes, as files. Text-to-speech models turn a written line into audio, in many languages, and lipsync models can match that audio to a video. These are voice files you generate, not a live character who talks back. Use the preset voices, never imitate the voice of a real person, and check the model page of the one you pick.
This page prints no prices for either, because plans change and a stale number misleads more than a missing one. Picasso IA sells credits, every generation shows its cost before you run it, and the current plans are on the pricing page. For Janitor AI, check its own site, and if you connect a key, remember that the provider who issued it bills you separately.
Check before you publish. Each model has its own licence, and they can differ between models, so open the page of the model you used and read it, together with the platform rules. Review anything commercial for a resemblance to an existing franchise, a trademark or a real person, whatever any licence says. Questions about a specific case go to support.
No. Models differ in what they accept and what they refuse, and each model page tells you what to expect. The rule across the platform is the same: fictional adults only, never a real or identifiable person, nobody who could read as a minor. If a prompt is declined, adjust the request or pick a different model rather than expecting every model to behave alike.
No. There is no partnership, no affiliate arrangement and no payment in either direction between Picasso IA and Janitor AI, or any other product named on these pages. Janitor AI is named here because people choosing between a hosted generation studio and a character chat site search for exactly this comparison, and an honest answer helps them more than a sales pitch.
Yes, for what it is built to do, and this page has tried to say so throughout. It is arranged around characters, conversations and the creators who publish them, and it lets you decide what model sits behind the chat by connecting your own key. If character roleplay with that kind of control is what you want, it is a sound choice, and a generation studio was never trying to replace it.
Both products reward someone who knows what they want to hold at the end of the session. If it is a finished image, clip or voice line, open the toolkit with a brief you already have, spend the free credits and see whether the result earns a place in your work.
