Gemini is the assistant Google built around its own models, and it lives inside Gmail, Docs, Drive and Search. Picasso IA puts 488 models from many labs, Gemini models included, side by side for images, video, voice and 3D, in the toolkit, through an API and inside MCP clients.
Gemini is Google's assistant: an app you talk to, built on the Gemini family of models and wired into the products Google already runs, Gmail, Docs, Drive and Search among them. Picasso IA is a different kind of place. It is a catalog of 488 models from many labs, and four of the Gemini models are in it, Gemini 3 Pro, Gemini 3.1 Pro, Gemini 3 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash, so a Gemini model is one choice on a shelf that also holds the other big labs, plus image, video, voice, music and 3D models.
The question this page answers is therefore not which model is smarter. It is where you want to work. If your day is email, documents and calendar in Google Workspace, an assistant that reads those things natively is a real advantage, and Gemini is that assistant. If your work is making things, a campaign image today, a short clip tomorrow, a narration after that, and you would rather pick the model for each job than live with one lab's house choices, a catalog is the better shape.
Plenty of people will end up with both, which is a sensible outcome. Gemini for the assistant that knows your inbox and your files, Picasso IA for the moments when you want to compare a Gemini answer against another lab's, or when the job is a picture, a video or a voice rather than a conversation. The sections below say where each one wins, in specifics, and the places where Gemini wins are not small.
Eleven rows. The first seven are a plain yes or no that holds for both products, and the last four need a short phrase because a tick would flatten them.
| Feature | Picasso IA | Gemini |
|---|---|---|
| Chat with a large language model | Yes | Yes |
| Image generation from a text prompt | Yes | Yes |
| Video generation from a text prompt | Yes | Yes |
| Built into Gmail, Docs and Drive | No | Yes |
| Spoken live conversation with the assistant | No | Yes |
| Models from many different labs in one place | Yes | No |
| 3D model generation | Yes | No |
| Which models you can use | 488 from many labs | Google's own model family |
| First step on a new job | Pick a model, then prompt | Open the app and ask |
| What it is arranged around | A catalog you choose from | One assistant that decides |
| Reaching it from your own code | API and MCP, every model | Google's own developer API |
Picasso IA leads on 2 rows, Gemini leads on 2, and the other 7 come down to what you need.
The two rows Gemini wins are the ones that matter most if you work in Google's world: it is built into the apps where your mail and documents already live, and you can simply talk to it. Picasso IA has no inbox to read and no live voice conversation, and no amount of model variety changes that. Where we win, it is variety and range: many labs on one shelf, and 3D, which the Gemini app does not make.
A new Picasso IA account starts with free credits, and they spend on the same catalog everyone else uses, not on a cut-down demo. That means you can ask Gemini 3 Flash a question, run an image model, try a voice and render a short clip before deciding anything, and see what each one cost in credits as you go. You can also browse the collection and the effects gallery without paying, which shows what the models produce rather than what a page says they produce.
Gemini is free to start with a Google account, and for many people that is the whole appeal: no new sign-up, no new tab to keep open, and the assistant is already there on the phone and in the browser. What the free tier includes, which models it reaches and how much of it you get changes as Google updates the product, so read it on Google's own pages instead of trusting a comparison to be current.
How to think about it: the free side of Gemini is an easy way to get an assistant into your existing Google routine. The free side of Picasso IA is an easy way to see how different models behave on your own prompt, including Gemini models, before you commit a single credit to any of them.
On Picasso IA, paying buys credits, and credits are what every generation spends. The cost depends on the model and the settings you choose, so a quick text answer and a long video are priced as different jobs, and you can see which is which before you run anything. Plan sizes and numbers live on the pricing page and nowhere else, because a figure printed in an article goes stale the day plans change.
On Gemini, paying is about the assistant itself: access to Google's more capable models, more room to use them, and the features Google puts behind its paid plans. Google publishes what each plan holds and revises it, so we will not summarize it here. What is durable is the shape of the purchase. You are subscribing to an assistant that sits across Google's products, and the value grows with how much of your working life already happens in them.
That makes the money question mostly a question of habit. If you open Docs and Gmail every day and want help inside them, the assistant subscription follows your habit. If your spending would follow output, this many images, that video, a handful of voice tracks, credits that map to each result are the cleaner fit, and nothing about one choice rules out the other.
This is the section where Gemini is better at several concrete things, so it gets the most space on the page.
Gemini is arranged around one assistant. You open the app, say what you want, and the assistant decides how to get there: it answers from the model, searches, reads a file you attached, pulls from your mail or your documents if you let it, or makes an image or a video with Google's creative models when you ask. That arrangement has real advantages. Nobody has to learn which model does what. The context you are working in travels with you, so a request can refer to the document you were just in. Deep research, where the assistant goes off and builds a long, sourced report on a topic, is a feature of the app rather than of any single model, and so is Gemini Live, where you talk to it out loud and it talks back. A catalog does not give you those, because they are products built around a model, not models.
Google also builds its own features into its own app, and the app's deeper hooks into Google Workspace, Search and the phone will never be reproduced by a third-party catalog. If you want Google's features exactly as Google ships them, with those hooks, the app is where you will be.
Picasso IA makes the opposite bet. Instead of one assistant that decides, you choose. Open the toolkit, pick a model, write a prompt or attach files, and generate. The same screen reaches Gemini 3 Pro and Gemini 3.1 Pro for heavier reasoning, Gemini 3 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash when you want a quick answer, and then models from other labs, GPT-5.6 Sol, Claude Sonnet 5, Grok 4 and DeepSeek V3.1 among them, so a hard question can be put to several of them and the answers laid side by side. The Gemini 3 Pro page also exposes the knobs the model offers: a thinking level that trades speed for depth, a system instruction, and a temperature setting. That is what choosing a model gives you, control and comparison.
If you would rather not pick at all, Supercomputer is the creative agent: you describe the result in plain words, it plans the job, picks models from the catalog, renders the steps and shows you the result, and you steer it in the same conversation. It is a separate product from the toolkit, which is where you choose the model yourself.
So the trade is plain. Gemini gives you one lab's best assistant with the deepest integration into Google. Picasso IA gives you the freedom to move between labs, and between kinds of output, without changing tools, accounts or billing.
For text, the two are close to equal in kind: both let you chat with a large language model, and Gemini models are in both. For still images and video the Gemini app can generate both from a prompt, using Google's own creative models, inside the same conversation where you do everything else. That convenience is real, and for a one-off picture while drafting a document it is hard to beat.
Picasso IA covers the same formats as separate, choosable models. For images there are entries such as Nano Banana Pro, Imagen 4, FLUX 2 Pro and Seedream 5 Pro, so you pick the look the job needs. For video there are Veo 3.1 and Kling V3 among others, and image-to-video, so a still you already like can become the first frame of a shot. Google's own creative models are in the catalog next to everyone else's, which is the point: the same Google model you might use in the app, with the alternatives one click away. If you want to see Google's image model compared to the app on its own, there is a dedicated Nano Banana comparison, and one for video, Picasso IA against Google Veo.
Voice is where the two diverge most. Gemini Live is a conversation: you speak, it answers aloud, and you can use it hands-free. Picasso IA has no live voice assistant. What it has is voice as output: text-to-speech models, among them Gemini 3.1 Flash TTS, ElevenLabs voices and others, for narrating a video or recording a script, plus speech-to-text models and lipsync for putting a voice onto a face you made. The first is talking with an assistant; the second is producing a finished audio file.
Music and 3D are further from the Gemini app. The catalog holds music generation models, including Lyria 3, and 3D models such as Hunyuan 3D 3.1 and Rodin that turn a picture into a mesh. The Gemini app is an assistant first, and does not offer 3D generation as a product, so for that format Picasso IA is the one to reach for.
Gemini edits the way it does everything else, by conversation. Attach a photo, say what to change, and the assistant returns a revised version, and you can keep refining in the same thread. For quick retouching without opening a second tool, that loop is genuinely pleasant, and because it sits next to the rest of your assistant, an edit can follow a question about the same file without a context switch.
Picasso IA offers editing as separate tools that each do one job and accept any image, whether or not it was generated here. There are dedicated background removal models, upscalers for restoring detail in a small or soft image, and video enhancement and editing models. The conversational route exists too: a model such as Nano Banana Pro takes an instruction to change one thing and leave the rest. If you need the same job done repeatedly, say a hundred product photos with the background removed, a fixed tool behaves the same way each time, and it can be called through the API as in the background removal API rather than being redone by hand in a chat.
Where Gemini wins is the conversational one-off that needs no setup. Where Picasso IA wins is repeatable, dedicated tools and the ability to pick between several editing models when the first result is not right.
Speed on Picasso IA follows the work. Quick text and image models come back faster, heavier reasoning takes longer, and video takes longer still because it is expensive to compute anywhere. The cost shown before you run a job tracks that, which is why Gemini 3 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash sit in the catalog for quick questions and Gemini 3 Pro and Gemini 3.1 Pro for the harder ones.
Speed on Gemini depends on which model the app routes your request to and on Google's own infrastructure. The same is true of its usage limits: how much you can do, in the free tier or a paid one, is Google's to set and to change, so check Google's pages before building a routine around any number. We will not quote one, since a wrong figure about someone else's product outlives its correction.
Long documents sit naturally next to your Drive files, and in the app they are handled alongside them. Gemini 3 Pro in our catalog accepts text, images, audio and video in one request, so the capability exists here too, though without the app's tie to your Drive. If your core job is working through a very large pile of Google documents, the app's native access is the more direct route.
Commercial use is a question for each side's own terms. On Picasso IA, each model has its own licence and rules, so check the page of the specific model you rely on and the platform rules before you ship anything for a client. For what you make with Gemini, Google's terms and policies govern, and they are Google's to publish and revise. On either platform, review a result for resemblance to trademarks, real people or a living artist's style before it goes anywhere public.
Eight reasons, four on each side. If the thing that brought you here is really an image or a video question, the Nano Banana comparison and the Google Veo comparison go deeper on each format than this page can.
Choose Picasso IA when the job is making things, when you want Gemini models next to those of other labs so you can compare them on the same prompt, when you need 3D, music or a dedicated editing tool, or when you want the same models through an API or inside an MCP client instead of an app.
Nothing here asks you to give Gemini up. The easiest way to use both is to add Picasso IA for the jobs the assistant is not built around and see how it feels, so the steps below are about adding a tool.
For making images, video, voice and 3D from a choice of models, yes, and for living inside Gmail, Docs and Drive, no. If your work is creative output and you like choosing the model for each job, Picasso IA is a strong fit and it even carries Gemini models. If what you want is an assistant that reads your mail and files and talks to you out loud, Gemini is the better tool and we do not pretend to replace it.
Yes. The catalog includes Gemini 3 Pro, Gemini 3.1 Pro, Gemini 3 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash, plus a Gemini text-to-speech entry, and you open any of them from the toolkit or from its own model page. What you get is the model, not the Gemini app around it, so Google Workspace hooks, Gemini Live and app-only features stay in Google's own product.
No. Picasso IA does not read your inbox or your Drive, and it has no assistant that works inside Google's apps. You can attach a file you export yourself to a model that accepts it, but the deep, native integration across Google Workspace belongs to Gemini, and that is one of its clearest advantages.
No, there is no live spoken conversation with an assistant on Picasso IA. Voice is handled as output: text-to-speech models for narration, speech-to-text models for transcripts, and lipsync for matching a voice to a face. If you want to talk to an assistant hands-free, Gemini Live is the right tool for that.
Yes, and as separate models you pick yourself. The catalog has image models such as Nano Banana Pro, Imagen 4, FLUX 2 Pro and Seedream 5 Pro, and video models such as Veo 3.1 and Kling V3, with image-to-video included. Generation costs credits, and the amount depends on the model and the settings. You can also hand the whole job to Supercomputer, the creative agent, which picks models for you.
Yes. Create a key in your account, send a request naming a model and its inputs, and get the generated file back, with the same models and the same credits as the toolkit. MCP-capable clients such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Cursor can generate images, video and voice from the catalog inside the conversation. Gemini has its own developer interface for Google's models, which is a separate thing.
We do not print prices for either product, because plans change and a stale number misleads. Picasso IA is credit based: new accounts get free credits, each generation costs credits that depend on the model and the settings, and the current plans are on the pricing page. Gemini's free and paid options are described on Google's own pages, which are the place to read them.
Check before you rely on it. On Picasso IA each model has its own licence, so read the page of the specific model and the platform rules before using output in client work. For anything made with Gemini, Google's terms govern. On both, look for resemblance to trademarks, real people or a living artist's style. Questions about a specific case can go to support.
No. There is no partnership, no affiliate arrangement and no payment in either direction between Picasso IA and Google, Gemini or any other product named on this page. Gemini is named here because people choosing between an assistant and a model catalog search for exactly this comparison, and an honest answer helps them more than a sales page would.
Yes, and this page has tried to show it throughout. Gemini pairs strong models with the one thing a catalog cannot copy, a place inside the Google apps where a very large number of people already spend their working day, from the inbox to documents to search, with a voice mode and deep research on top. For anyone whose work runs through Google, it is a very good assistant and often the right first choice, and a catalog was never meant to take its place.
If a job today is a picture, a clip or a voice rather than a conversation, open the toolkit, pick a model and try it with your own prompt using the free credits. The full catalog shows every model, Gemini ones included.
