Kindroid is a companion app where you design one character, its personality, backstory, look and voice, and keep talking with it over time. Picasso IA is a generation studio of 488 models for images, video, voice and music, where you design how characters look and sound, with free credits to start.
Kindroid and Picasso IA both start from the idea of a character, and then they go in opposite directions. Kindroid is a companion app: you design one character, with a personality, a backstory, an appearance and a voice, and then you keep talking with it. The conversation is the product, and the character is meant to stay the same person from one week to the next. Picasso IA is a generation studio: 488 models for images, video, voice, music and 3D, plus the language models of the catalog, where every job is a request that ends in a file you can keep.
That difference decides almost everything. If what you want is somebody to talk to, a character with a history that remembers your last conversation and answers in a voice you chose, Kindroid is the product built for it, and Picasso IA is not. We have no persistent persona and no relationship memory, and we will not pretend a prompt box can stand in for either. If what you want is to make things for and about characters you invent, a portrait, a short animated clip, a spoken line, a cover for a story, Picasso IA is where that happens, with a choice of models for each job.
This page is written for the person who typed both names into a search box. It says where Kindroid is clearly better, which is most of what a companion needs, where Picasso IA does things Kindroid does not try to do, and how the two can sit side by side. It also says, because it matters, that Picasso IA works with fictional adult characters only, and that models differ in what they accept, so each model page is worth a read before you rely on it.
Eleven rows. The first seven have a yes or no answer for both products; the last four need a phrase, because a tick cannot describe how a companion app and a studio differ in kind.
| Feature | Picasso IA | Kindroid |
|---|---|---|
| Keeps one persistent character that remembers past chats | No | Yes |
| Generates 3D models | Yes | No |
| Live voice conversation with your character | No | Yes |
| Generates music from a prompt | Yes | No |
| Group chats between several characters | No | Yes |
| Dedicated iPhone and Android apps | No | Yes |
| Removes the background from a photo | Yes | No |
| Built around | A generation studio | A companion you design |
| What you start with | A model and a prompt | A character you design |
| Main output | Images, video, audio, 3D | Ongoing conversation |
| Over time | Every job starts fresh | One character carries on |
Picasso IA leads on 3 rows, Kindroid leads on 4, and the other 4 come down to what you want from a character.
The tally is lopsided in the direction a companion seeker would expect, and that is the honest reading: four of the seven yes or no rows are things a companion app does and a studio does not, and one of them, memory that carries a character through months of conversation, is the whole point of the category. The three rows we win are about making media. They matter a lot if you are producing images and clips, and not at all if you only want to talk.
A new Picasso IA account starts with free credits that you spend on the same catalog everybody else uses. That is enough to try the part that matters for this comparison: invent a character in words, generate a portrait with one image model, try a second model on the same description, and hear a line of dialogue read by a text to speech voice. You can also browse the collection and the effects page without spending anything, which shows what the catalog actually produces. Nothing you try on the free side gives you a character that remembers you, because that is not something Picasso IA has at any tier.
Kindroid is a subscription product, and whether you can try it before paying, and for how long, is for its own site to say. Whatever the trial looks like, the quality of a companion is something you only learn by living with it for a few days, not by reading a feature list. The exact limits of any free or trial side, and what moves behind a subscription, are Kindroid's to publish and to change, so check its own site for the current shape.
The honest split: if the first thing you want to do is have a conversation with a character who is yours, start where the conversation lives. If the first thing you want is a picture, a clip or a voice for a character you already imagine, start with the free credits here. Each takes a few minutes.
On Picasso IA, paying buys credits, and credits are the whole economy. Every generation shows its cost before you run it, a video costs more than a still image, a long voice recording costs more than a short one, and a plan only changes how many credits you hold. The current numbers live on the pricing page and nowhere in this article, because plans change and a stale number helps nobody. Nothing renews into a relationship: you buy capacity to make things, and when the credits are used you have the files.
Kindroid is a subscription product, and that fits what it sells. A companion is something you come back to every day, so the natural way to pay is for continued access to it, with the paid side opening up more of what a character can do. What each tier contains is Kindroid's to state, and it changes, so this page does not repeat it.
The useful question is what kind of spending you expect. If you will make dozens of images, a few clips and some narration for a story and then move on, credits that you spend as you go fit better than a standing subscription. If you will talk to one character most days for months, a subscription to the thing that remembers it is the sensible shape, and credits do nothing for that need.
This section is the longest on purpose, because it is where Kindroid is genuinely better at what it does, and where the two products show how little they overlap.
Kindroid is arranged around one character at a time, and the character is a designed thing. You set a personality, write or shape a backstory, choose an appearance and a voice, and from then on the app carries that definition into every conversation. The character has a long memory of what you have said to it, can answer by text or by voice, and can talk with you on calls. The app can also share a picture of the character, and you can put several characters into a group chat and let them talk to each other. All of that is one product with one goal, and the pieces are tuned to work together. The longer you use it, the more the character feels like it has a shared history with you, and that continuity is something we do not offer in any form.
Picasso IA does not generate a companion. It generates media, one request at a time, and you decide which model answers. For a character's look you can try a photorealistic model such as FLUX, an illustration-leaning model such as Seedream, or nano banana for edits that change one thing and leave the rest of the picture alone. For motion you can turn a still into a clip with Kling or Veo. For a voice there are text to speech models, and lipsync models can match a spoken line to a face in a clip. A language model from the catalog, Claude Sonnet 5 for example, can draft a backstory or a scene of dialogue that you then voice and illustrate. The character exists in the files and in your own notes, not inside the product.
That is the real trade. Kindroid gives you depth on one character, held together for you. Picasso IA gives you breadth on how a character is shown: the same invented person as a portrait, as a short clip, as a voiceover, as the cover of a story, each from the model that suits that job. Keeping the face consistent across many images is work you steer yourself, with reference images and careful prompts, and the page on consistent AI characters walks through how. Models differ in what they accept, so check the page of each one before you build on it. On Picasso IA the rule is fictional adult characters only, never a real person.
Kindroid covers the formats a conversation needs. Text is the base, voice is there for talking, calls make it feel live, and the character can send a picture of itself. That is a focused set, and each piece serves the same idea of a presence you spend time with. It is not a tool for making a poster, a trailer or a soundtrack, and it is not trying to be.
Picasso IA covers formats and leaves the presence out. Images come from many text to image models, and any of them can take a reference image where it supports one. Video comes from text to video and image to video models, so a portrait can become the opening frame of a short shot. Audio has three parts: text to speech voices for narration and dialogue, music generation for a theme or a mood track, and speech to text when you need a transcript. 3D models turn a picture into a mesh you can use elsewhere. Lipsync models connect a voice to a face in a clip.
Here is a concrete way to see the gap. Suppose you have invented a character for a story or a game. Kindroid would give you someone to talk to as that character, which is a wonderful way to find a voice for them. Picasso IA would give you the cover art, the animated intro, the narrated first chapter and the theme music. If you do both, the companion app is where the character comes alive in conversation, and the studio is where the world around them is made. Voice work is also covered on its own page if you want to compare ElevenLabs as a dedicated speech tool.
Kindroid is not an editing product, and nobody should expect it to be. Its relationship to images is that a character can share one. There is no step where you bring in your own photograph and clean it up, enlarge it or lift the subject off the background.
Picasso IA treats editing as a set of separate tools that accept any image, whether it was generated here or not. Remove a background from a picture of a prop or a costume, upscale an old illustration so it holds up at print size, or ask nano banana to change one detail while leaving the rest of the frame as it is. For a character project this is practical: you generate a portrait, remove its background, place it on a banner, and enlarge the final file for a cover, all in the same toolkit. The cost of each step is shown before you run it, so a test on a real file is cheap.
If your main need is retouching your own pictures, Kindroid is the wrong tool and Picasso IA is a sensible one. If your main need is a character that talks back, editing never enters the picture at all.
The two feel different in time. A conversation with Kindroid is meant to feel immediate, a message in and a reply back, and that rhythm is the product. Picasso IA works in jobs: fast image models return in seconds, heavier models take longer, and video takes minutes because video is expensive to compute anywhere. The credit cost shown beforehand tracks that.
Limits on Kindroid, such as how much you can say or how much a character can recall at a time, are Kindroid's to publish, and they shift, so this page leaves them out rather than quote something that may be wrong next month.
Commercial use works differently too. On Picasso IA, what you may do with a generated file depends on the model that produced it and on the platform rules, so check each model's page and its licence before you build a business on it. Kindroid's terms govern what you may do with its conversations and images, and they are written by Kindroid, so read them directly. On both, a generated picture can resemble a trademark or a real person closely enough to cause trouble, whatever the terms say, so look at anything commercial before it ships, and keep every character fictional.
Eight reasons, four per side, compressing the sections above. If your real alternative is a general assistant rather than a companion, the ChatGPT comparison is closer to your decision than this one.
Choose Picasso IA when the characters are for something you are making: a story, a game, a channel, a campaign. Choose it when you want to pick between 488 models, see what each job costs before you run it, and turn one invented person into a portrait, a clip and a voice. And remember that the two are not rivals for the same evening, so using both is a perfectly reasonable answer.
Nobody has to leave one to try the other. Keep your Kindroid character exactly where it is while you test, because nothing here imports or replaces it.
Only if you were looking for a way to make images, video and voice for characters, and not if you were looking for a companion. Kindroid is built to keep one character you designed in conversation with you, with memory and voice, and Picasso IA has no persistent persona and no relationship memory. It is a generation studio. If the thing you want is to create media about characters you invent, it is a strong place to do it. If you want somebody to talk to, Kindroid is the better fit.
No. Picasso IA is not a companion app, and it keeps no character, personality or conversation history on your behalf between sessions. The catalog does include language models, so you can have a conversation and ask for a character sketch or a scene, but each session is its own, and nothing is held together as one evolving relationship. That is the part of the experience Kindroid is built around, and we do not offer it.
Yes, as separate steps. Describe the look in a prompt and try it on different image models, then pick a text to speech voice for the character's lines, and animate a portrait with an image to video model if you want motion. You hold the design in your notes and your files rather than in a saved profile. Models differ in what they accept, so check each model page, and keep characters fictional adults.
Partly, and it takes some work. Many models accept a reference image alongside the prompt, which helps a face stay recognisable, and careful wording helps further, but consistency is something you steer rather than something the product guarantees. The page on consistent AI characters explains the approach. A companion app keeps a character coherent for you inside conversation, which is a different problem.
No, not as a live back and forth with a persistent character. What it offers is text to speech, where you write a line and a voice model reads it, plus lipsync models that match a recording to a face, and speech to text for transcripts. If you want to hold a spoken conversation with a character, Kindroid is built for that. If you want to produce a voiceover or a line of dialogue as a file, the catalog has voices to try.
We do not print prices for either product in an article, because plans change and a stale number misleads. Picasso IA sells credits, every generation shows its cost before you run it, and the current numbers are on the pricing page. New accounts get free credits to try things first. Kindroid publishes its own plans on its own site, and they change independently of anything here.
Check before you rely on it. On Picasso IA, the licence comes from the model that made a file and from the platform rules, so read the page of each model you use. On Kindroid, its own terms apply and are written by Kindroid. On both, review anything you plan to sell for resemblance to a trademark or a real person, and keep every character fictional. Questions about a specific case can go to support.
Yes, and for many people that is the sensible answer. Use Kindroid for the conversation, where a character you designed stays consistent and remembers you. Use Picasso IA for the media around it, such as portraits, short clips, voiced lines or cover art for something you are writing. Nothing connects the two accounts, so you carry your own notes between them.
No. There is no partnership, no affiliate arrangement and no payment in either direction between Picasso IA and Kindroid, or any other product named on these pages. Kindroid appears here because people weighing a customizable companion against a media studio search for exactly this comparison, and an honest answer is more useful to them than a sales page dressed up as one.
For what it sets out to do, yes, and this page has tried to say so throughout. It gives you real control over a character, the personality, the backstory, the look and the voice, and it keeps that character present across text, voice and calls, with memory that makes conversation feel continuous. It reaches you on phones and the web, and it lets characters talk to one another. A studio was never trying to replace that, and for people who want a companion it is a well-considered answer.
Picasso IA is worth a few minutes of your own testing, and with free credits the testing costs very little. Open the Picasso IA toolkit with a character you have already invented, spend the free credits, and see whether a portrait and a voice earn a place in what you are making.
