Wix is a website builder with AI features that help you draft a site and write its content, wrapped around templates, hosting, a store and booking. Picasso IA is a catalog of 488 models for the pictures, video, voice and 3D that go on a site, with free credits to start and no site to host.
Wix and Picasso IA sit at different ends of the same job. Wix is a website builder: you pick or generate a layout, edit it in a visual editor, connect a domain and publish, and the site lives on Wix. Its AI features, a site generator that drafts pages from a description plus tools that write text, make images and fill in metadata, exist to get you through that build faster. Picasso IA does not build or host websites. It is a catalog of 488 models for making the assets a site is dressed in: photographs and illustrations, short video, voiceover, music, 3D, background removal and upscaling, in six languages, with free credits for a new account.
So the choice is rarely either/or. If you need a business website that is online by the weekend, with a store, a booking calendar, a contact form and somewhere to point your domain, Wix does that whole job and we do not touch any of it. If the site already exists, or you are building it elsewhere, and what you lack is a hero image that does not look like everyone else's, a product shot on a clean background or a looping clip for the top of the homepage, Picasso IA is where you choose a model that fits that picture.
One more way to see it: Wix decides how a site is assembled and gives you one set of AI helpers inside that process. Picasso IA decides nothing about your site and gives you the widest set of picture-making tools to bring to it. The sections below walk through what each gives free, what paying changes, how each one generates, what each covers beyond a still image, and who should pick which. Where Wix is simply the right tool, and for building and running a site that is most of the time, this page says so plainly.
Eleven rows. The first seven have a clean yes or no for both products; the last four need a phrase, because a tick would hide the difference.
| Feature | Picasso IA | Wix |
|---|---|---|
| Builds and hosts a complete website | No | Yes |
| Online store with product catalog and checkout | No | Yes |
| Drag-and-drop editor for page layouts | No | Yes |
| Text-to-image generation | Yes | Yes |
| 3D model generation from an image | Yes | No |
| Pick from hundreds of different image and video models | Yes | No |
| Booking and appointment scheduling for a service business | No | Yes |
| What the AI is for | Making the assets | Building the site |
| Where the output ends up | Downloads and your history | Your site's media library |
| What you start with | A model and a prompt | A template or a site prompt |
| Best fit | Images, video, voice, 3D | The whole business website |
Picasso IA leads on 2 rows, Wix leads on 4, and the other 5 come down to what you need.
That is a lopsided count on purpose, because the first seven rows are mostly questions about running a website, and running a website is what Wix is for. Winning on 3D and on model choice does not make us a site builder, and the row that ties, plain text-to-image, is where the two actually meet. The meeting point is narrower than it looks: Wix offers an image tool as one helper inside its editor, while we offer that same job as the main event, with a different model for each look.
A new Picasso IA account starts with free credits that spend on the same catalog everyone uses, not on a cut-down demo. You can run a frontier image model, a video model or a text-to-speech voice before deciding anything, and you can browse the collection and the effects gallery without paying to see what the catalog produces for real prompts. Nothing in that free start asks you to connect a domain, pick a template or commit to a platform.
Wix lets you start building without paying, and that is a real advantage for an experiment: you can sit in the editor, try a template, let its AI draft a few pages and see whether the result feels like your business before any money moves. Which AI features that free start includes, and how many generations you get, is Wix's own information to publish and it changes over time, so check its pages for what is current. Running a site on your own domain is, as with most builders, a step that comes with a paid plan.
The honest split: if the question is whether a model can make the picture in your head, our free credits answer it in the first ten minutes with no site attached. If the question is whether a drag-and-drop editor and an AI draft can get a presentable site online without a developer, Wix's free start is the place to find out.
On Picasso IA, paying buys credits, and credits are the whole economy. Every generation costs credits, the amount depends on the model and the settings you choose, and a heavier job such as a video clip costs more than a still. The plans differ in how many credits you get, so you never subscribe to a feature, only to volume. Current numbers live on the pricing page, and we keep them there so an article never goes stale.
On Wix, paying is different in kind, because you are paying for a place to run a business: hosting for the site, your own domain, the commerce features if you sell online, and more room for the tools that work around the site. What each tier unlocks is Wix's to publish and it changes, so we do not restate any of it here; read its own pricing page before you decide.
Because the two bills pay for different things, many people end up with both and never compare them directly. A site on Wix needs its hosting and its plan whether or not a single image on it was generated. A Picasso IA account needs credits only on the days you make something. If your site is fine and you only need a better set of pictures this month, credits are the smaller commitment; if you have no site yet, no number of credits will give you one.
This is where the two products work most differently, so it gets the longest section.
Wix generates inside its builder. You describe your business, the AI drafts a site structure with pages, text and pictures, and you refine the result in the editor. The AI is one tool among many in a product whose real job is turning that draft into a live, maintained website, with the layout, the forms, the store and the search settings all in one place. You do not choose an image model, and you do not need to: the point is a coherent site, not the best possible individual picture. For someone who wants a site rather than a gallery, that trade is the right one.
Picasso IA generates one asset at a time, and you decide how. In the toolkit you pick a model, write a prompt or attach files, and generate. Every model in the catalog also has its own page where you can use it directly. For a clean photographic hero image you might try FLUX 2 Pro, for illustration or a stylised banner Seedream 5 Pro, for an edit that keeps the rest of a picture intact Nano Banana Pro, and for a logo mark or icon set that stays crisp at any size a vector model such as Recraft V4 SVG. When a stronger model arrives it appears next to the old one, and learning which model suits which look is the whole skill involved.
There is a second way in. Supercomputer, our agent chat, takes a plain-words description of the result you want, plans the job, picks models from the catalog, renders the steps and shows you what came out, and you steer it in the same conversation. It is a separate product from the toolkit: the toolkit is where you pick the model yourself, Supercomputer is where you hand over the picking. Our page on an AI website draft from one prompt shows how that conversation can produce pages, copy and matching images as a draft you review before anything goes live. It is a draft to take away and build with, not a hosted site, and the hosting, the domain and the publishing stay your job.
The practical difference is who holds the wheel. With Wix, the AI follows the site you are assembling. With Picasso IA, the site is somewhere else and the model follows your brief for one picture at a time.
For still images, both products can turn a sentence into a picture, and for a blog header or a placeholder inside a draft page, Wix's built-in tool is convenient precisely because it is already in the editor. Picasso IA covers the same ground with many models rather than one, which matters when a brand needs a specific look: photographic product light, flat editorial illustration, a consistent set of icons. Several of those models handle the text-in-image jobs a banner needs better than others, and trying three on one prompt costs less than commissioning a reshoot.
For video, the catalog includes text to video and image to video models such as Kling V3 and Veo 3.1, which is how a looping background clip or a short product teaser for the top of a homepage gets made. Wix is a place where video can be shown on a page, and its editor handles the placement, the autoplay behavior and the mobile layout; generating the clip from a prompt is the part we do and the part to bring along.
For audio, text to speech models turn a script into a voiceover for a welcome video or an audio version of a page, and music models make a background track. Whether you can use any of that on a site is a question about your page, not about us: you download the file and place it where the editor lets you.
For 3D, Picasso IA turns an image into a 3D model with Hunyuan3D 3.1, useful for a rotating product view or a game-style asset on a portfolio. Wix's AI tools are aimed at pages, text and pictures rather than 3D models, so on this row the answer is simple.
Past the generated asset, the coverage flips. Pages, navigation, forms, a checkout, a blog engine, a members area, email campaigns and the settings that help a site get found are all Wix territory, and we have nothing equivalent to offer.
Picasso IA treats editing as a set of tools that accept any image, generated here or not. A phone photo of a product can go through background removal, with a model such as Bria Remove Background, and come back as a cutout you can drop on any colour. A small supplier photo can be enlarged with an upscaling model so it holds up in a full-width banner. An edit model such as Nano Banana Pro can change a shirt colour or clear a cluttered corner while leaving the rest of the frame alone. For a store owner with a folder of imperfect product photos, that is a practical afternoon.
Wix's side of editing is about layout rather than pixels: cropping and framing an image inside a page, placing it, setting how it behaves on a phone, adding overlays and animations. That is the editing a website needs, and it is better integrated than anything we could offer, because the editor knows the page the picture lives on. Deep retouching of the image itself is done before upload, which is exactly where our tools sit.
The tidy way to combine them is simple: prepare the picture here, then upload it to the Wix media library and place it. If you want to automate the first half for a long product list, the background removal API sends the same job from a script, though a store with a few dozen products rarely needs it.
Speed on Picasso IA depends on the model. Fast image models return in seconds, heavier ones take longer, and video takes the longest because video is expensive to compute anywhere. You pick the trade-off per job, which is the benefit of having a catalog rather than one engine. Each generation costs credits, and the amount depends on the model and the settings.
Speed on Wix is a different question: how quickly the AI drafts a first version, and then how fast the site loads for your visitors. Both are Wix's to describe, and any usage allowances on its AI features can change over time, so check its own pages. Where we can be specific is this: a site's load time is shaped by the size and format of the files you upload, which is another reason to export a picture at the size the page needs rather than the largest one the model can produce.
Commercial use needs care on both sides. On Picasso IA, check each model's licence before building a brand on its output, and check the platform rules; they can differ between models. On Wix, the terms cover what you publish through the builder, and whatever licences come with stock media or templates you use stay separate from anything you generate. Whichever way a picture was made, do not publish one that resembles a real person, a trademark or someone else's distinctive artwork, and review your own pages for accuracy before they go live.
If you came here only for the site builder, the answer is Wix, and most of the list below says why. If your question is closer to making a brand look consistent across tools, our comparisons with Canva AI and Adobe Express cover design suites that sit between the two.
Choose Picasso IA instead, or as well, when the pictures are what holds the site back: you want the choice of many image models, a video loop or voiceover for the page, a 3D view of a product, or cutouts and upscaled photos ready to upload, and you do not want any of it tied to one builder.
Nothing here requires leaving Wix. Treat Picasso IA as the studio that feeds the site, because the two meet at a file upload and nowhere else. Keep the site, the domain and the editor exactly where they are.
Only for part of the job. If you need a place to build and host a website, Picasso IA is not an alternative, because we do not build or host sites. If what you wanted from Wix's AI was good images for the pages, or you want more control over how they look, then yes: we offer many models for that single task, and the files drop into any site builder, Wix included.
No. Picasso IA makes images, video, voice, music and 3D, and its Supercomputer agent can draft the pages, copy and pictures of a site from one description for you to review. There is no hosting, no domain connection and no editor in which you publish pages, so a finished site still needs a builder, a CMS or a developer to put it online.
Yes. You download the file and upload it to your Wix media library like any other picture, then place it in the editor. Nothing has to be connected between the two accounts. Check the model licence and the platform rules for the model you used, and export at the size the page needs so the site stays quick to load.
For a quick placeholder or a simple header, you probably should, because it is already in the editor and it saves a step. We make sense when the look matters more than the convenience: you want to compare several models on the same prompt, you need a vector logo mark, a product cutout, a video loop or a 3D view, or you want pictures that are not tied to one builder.
Yes. Text to video and image to video models in the catalog can make a short clip, for example a slow looping background or a product teaser, and you download the file to place on the page. Video costs more credits than a still image. How the video is placed, set to play and shown on mobile is handled inside Wix's editor, not by us.
They pay for different things, so a direct comparison does not hold. Wix charges for running a site: hosting, a domain, commerce and the tools around them. Picasso IA charges credits per generation, and the amount depends on the model and the settings. New accounts get free credits. See the pricing page for ours, and Wix's own pages for its plans.
Usually that is the goal, but check before you publish. Models come from different labs, so check each model's licence, and read the platform rules. Beyond licences, avoid anything that resembles a real person, a trademark or a distinctive artwork you do not own, and review every page for accuracy. If something is unclear, support can point you the right way.
Not as a hosted result. Supercomputer is an agent in a chat: you describe what you want, it plans the job, picks models, renders the steps and shows you the outcome, and you steer it in the same conversation. It can draft a site's pages, copy and images, but you review and publish them elsewhere. The Wix builder, by contrast, ends with a live site.
No. There is no partnership, no affiliate arrangement and no payment in either direction between Picasso IA and Wix, or any other product named on these pages. Wix is named here because people choosing between a site builder and an image catalog search for exactly this comparison, and the most useful thing we can do is answer it honestly.
Yes, and for the job it was built for it covers a great deal in one place. Wix gives a person with no technical background a way to put a real business online: templates, a visual editor, hosting, commerce, booking, search tools and an AI that drafts the first version, all in one account. If you want a website more than you want a particular picture, it is a strong choice for that job.
If you already have a site, or a plan for one, the quickest way to see what a model can do for it is to pick one in the toolkit and generate the picture your homepage is missing.
